How to choose a robot lawn mower

Start with fit constraints, then compare brands. The right mower is usually decided by yard shape, setup tolerance, slope, edging expectations, and whether the model is actually sold in your region.

Match capacity to your real lawn

Use mowing capacity as headroom, not an exact promise. Complex shapes, narrow passages, slopes, and weather reduce practical throughput.

Choose the setup style first

Boundary-wire models can be cheaper and proven, while wire-free models reduce installation work but depend more on sensors, visibility, and mapping limits.

Treat slopes as a hard constraint

Filter by minimum slope rating before comparing price. A mower that slips or stalls on the steepest part of the yard is the wrong mower.

Check edge behavior before buying

Most robot mowers still leave trimming work at borders. Integrated edge trimming, offset blades, and close-edge modes matter if your lawn has many beds or walls.

Verify local availability

US and EU catalogs often differ. Open the manufacturer and retailer links on the detail page before assuming a model is orderable in your market.
